Ever since I was a young girl I have always enjoyed drawing and  painting, being a spiritual person I particularly enjoy drawing  pictures of spiritual and fantasy themes with a  particular interest  in fairies and angels. As a hobby i used to  create pictures and  cards of angels for friends and family but i didn’t take it any  further than that until I was introduced to the art of wood  burning (pyrography). Not knowing much about this, I quickly  discovered  it was nothing like drawing with a pencil.
Pyrography is basically burning a design onto wood using a very  hot wire. You can use a variety of woods, some burn better than  others. Leather and paper can also be used for pyrography. My particular favourite is Sycamore, this is a pale wood with close grain which burns evenly which gives greater control over the nib. All my wood is from managed woodlands and prepared locally to my own requirements which gives me more control over how I want the wood. Often the wood has natural defects and grain pattern or figure which with a little planning can be used as part of the picture. I also paint a little watercolour wash onto some of the finished pictures which seems to compliment it well.
A lot of people who do pyrography will burn designs of animals, buildings, countryside scenes etc but I decided to carry on with the fantasy art theme. My work includes pictures of faeries, angels, dragons, The Green Man, Native American Chief, and Mermaid - amongst others. As well as various size pictures I also decorate smaller items such as spoons, bowls, pots, candlesticks with Celtic knots, butterflies, flowers, leaves, toadstools - the list goes on!
I have work in local galleries and do several craft shows throughout the year where i give demonstrations or for any one who wants to have a go themselves. I am happy to do commissions on request, so treat yourself to a bespoke mystical keepsake or give a gift for someone special. You may choose the design and if you wish personalise the item to make it even more unique. Each piece is finished of by sealing the wood and then a coat or two of wax. Each piece is suitable for wall hanging.
